We've been doing business in Union County, Oregon since 1998. We started with The Boulder Market, then had a gun shop for a few years. In 2012 Roger and daughter Adina decided to go to Auctioneering College in Montana. We are members of NAA - the National Auctioneer's Association. Over that last 10 years we've come to know the auction industry and most particularly the Eastern Oregon market where we work. We have a strong following of customers. Besides this website and our local business we have an established a presence on the world-wide auctioneering platform HiBid.
What do we charge?
Our normal fee for doing an auction is 30% of your general sales. Unlike many auction companies, we don't charge for our time to come look at your estate and give you a quote. We don't charge extra for setting up the sale or conducting the auction or estate sale. We can charge less commission on high ticket items, like vehicles, equipment and anything of high value. Our commission covers our labor to set up the sale and to conduct the sale. Since the cost of fuel and labor has jumped up we have to charge separately for packing and transporting an auction to a different location. If we need extra help to move heavy items like safes and cast iron stoves we charge extra for that labor. We try to keep things as inexpensive as possible. We have gone more toward estate sales because they are easier to set up and conduct and seem to draw more people because it's not a several-hour commitment for the buyers. Online auctions - especially those for items like firearms, tools, coins, stamps and other collectibles tend to require no extra help and can be done in our facility. We have a federal firearms dealer who helps with firearms and passes the cost of the background check and transfer to the buyer.
Why not just do it myself?
There's a lot to be said for having an experienced person set up your sale and deal with customers. We have a significant following of people who look for sales we are doing. We have an established website and electronic network for getting the word out about your sale. We have an email marketing system and have HiBid as an option to advertise a local sale. Just having us price your items can easily pay for our commission in the higher prices you can realize. We don't pre-sell items and we don't negotiate prices unless you want us to. We assume the responsibility for getting your estate sold and you don't have to use up your vacation time to do all the work.
Do you charge a buyer's premium?
There is no buyer's premium for estate sales. Unlike most auction houses that charge 15 to 20% for the pleasure of buying from them, we charge 10%. The Buyer's Premium is standard for the auction business. It helps transfer the cost of providing service that are unique to the buyer - like the cost of processing credit and debit cards, or providing packing materials for items that have to be shipped.
Do we ever buy items from an estate or downsize?
We will consider purchasing items from you if we know we have a sales outlet for them. Right now we are looking for coins, stamps and other small collectibles.
